I've been hearing rumors that Viz Media has not licensed & dubbed anything past episode 104, is this true, and if so, why?
EDIT: If this isn't the right forum/subforum to post this in, would someone please move it to the correct/proper forum/subforum?
Also, would someone please mirror this thread into the Toonami forum/subforum if possible?

It's been theorized that 104 is where Viz stopped because they tend to record in batches of 52 episodes. I'm not sure if they're still playing Zatch Bell in Canada but we'll probably know for sure once Jetstream runs episode 104.
As for why?
Nobody really knows why Zatch Bell suddenly was taken off never to return. Some would theorize ratings but it seemed to be doing fine. Certainly well enough to get it's slot back eventually but it never did. But Viz is the type of company that only dubs parts of series until they have a buyer. MAR only got 52 episodes dubbed of it's 102 and The Prince of Tennis only got 50 dubbed of it's over 100 episodes even though both did fine on Jetstream. MAR and Zatch Bell DVDs seemed to have bombed so without a TV deal and no more DVDs Viz feels they have no reason to finish dubbing them. Which is one of many reasons I dislike Viz's business practices a LOT.

Zatch Bell stopped at episode 104 last week on YTV. Bionix is pre-empted until the end of the year, and YTV has thusfar only confirmed new episodes for Bleach and Naruto. So yeah, it's done.

1) Episode 104 did air last weekend in Canada, I know this since I watch the english dub as it airs in Canada. I don't live in Canada though, and I don't have access to the YTV Bionix Channel.
2) Those reasons are why I despise Viz Media as well.

For the moment anyways right? I mean, they (Viz Media) will go back to dubbing Zatch Bell! eventually right?

By the way, do you know the most recent volume of the manga that has came out so far?

Volume 22.
The Millenium Mamodo arc ends in volume 17, so you'll want to start on volume 18.

1) Thanks .
2) Hmm, I think I'd rather just start from the beginning of the manga .
Thanks for the tip though .

That's the same reason why I dislike VIZ's business with their anime that isn't Naruto, Bleach or Death Note. While series like Zatch Bell, MAR and Prince of Tennis may not become huge hits like Naruto, that doesn't mean they shouldn't even finish the rest of the series. I would figure that MAR and Prince of Tennis doing so well on Jetstream would be enough reason for them to finish both series, but I guess not. Oh well.

Not in America. I only plan on reading the U.S. manga books.

I don't dislike viz but they have to be smarter what they license. When you license a long series you better make sure it's popular like naruto or bleach ther is no reason dubbing a long series that isn't very popular. That's why funimation or bandai license small series That won't really do well. Hikaru no go has 75 episodes and they finished that.

Is it likely that they will eventually give the licenses to these shows away ala 4kids and One Piece or is that too much to hope for? I really want to see the rest of these shows without resorting to illegal means.

There is always the possibility of the shows you speak of being streamed subbed LEGALLY online one day.

Viz's usual outsourced studio of choice--Studiopolis--must have been assigned to focus solely on Naruto and Bleach. Naruto more so, as it did move into a highly accelerated production schedule.

There's alway's expensive Region 2's, accompanied with Japanese lessons. With the enjoyment of not needing subs, it'll prctically pay for itself.

There are people out there that don't know Japanese though, like me for instance, so buying the region 2 DVDs wouldnt help at all for people like me xD.
EDIT: Unless the Region 2 DVDs had english subtitles, in which case, I guess that could work out lol.

Well, Toei could do that with Gash Bell...
I mean, they're already doing it with Digimon 02 and Pretty Cure on Crunchyroll.
